Project overview
Born of the spirit of volunteerism arising from the 1984 Olympic Games, Kids in Sports (KIS) seeks to provide high quality, affordable sports opportunities to underserved youth while encouraging community and family involvement through the formation and management of sports clubs. There are 11 clubs that deliver sports activities in baseball, T-ball, basketball, soccer, softball, swimming and volleyball. We serve 8,000 youth annually.
How we achieve these goals
Each club acts as a partnership between the members of the community, parks, schools and Kids In Sports. Interested community members are encouraged to volunteer their time as coaches and sports club volunteers. The partnership with the parks and schools provides meeting rooms and sports facilities. All the aspects of each sports club are managed by Kids In Sports, including equipment, uniforms, and volunteer training.
Our impact so far
In 17 years of dedicated community service, Kids In Sports is proud to have served over 150,000 Los Angeles County youth. Youth who participate in KIS are physically active, develop teamwork and leadership skills, and work together with their parents, families, and community members to build stronger neighborhoods.
