Project overview
The project's motto is ‘Your victory is our victory' which is meant as a symbol of hope for young people to keep on fighting problems that plague their impoverished communities. The project aims to establish a sustainable programme that gives young people the knowledge and determination to combat serious social and health issues such as sexually transmitted infections, teenage pregnancy, HIV/AIDS, crime and substance abuse. The participants involved in this project are mostly primary and high school attendees, but it also includes young adults from the community.
How we achieve these goals
Laureus supports the sports element of the project which brings people together to participate in football, netball, volleyball and basketball. Tournaments and leagues are organised either at schools or in the community. Teamwork and nurturing talent are factors that offer young people a way to achieve their potential. The project tackles the primary concerns from two directions by also offering advice and counselling on sex and health education in these sessions.
Our impact so far
Almost 9000 children have benefited from the opportunities provided by the project.
