Australian Paralympian gold medallist Louise Sauvage was awarded the Laureus for World Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability. Academy member and Decathlete legend Daley Thompson presented her with the trophy.
"Thank you very much. I tell you what I hate sitting back there waiting to see who wins it’s horrible. But, I’d like to thank the Academy and the Members for voting for me, it’s fantastic. I think this award means a lot more; I think it really shows how far athletes with a disability or sport for athletes with a disability has come, and I’m so happy to be part of that. I think it, really shows the, it’s great to get the respect and the recognition that I believe all elite athletes deserve so, I’m really honoured to receive the inaugural award thank you." – Louise Sauvage
